Taster Day – try upholstery !

September 24, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

24 September 2016 from 10am to 5pm

Taster days are about finding out if upholstery works for you, so beginners are very welcome. Just bring a piece of furniture with all the old materials removed and the fabric you have chosen for re-upholstery. We provide everything else so don’t worry about the tools you might need or other materials like webbing, felt, calico and nails.

A footstool, dining chair with drop in seat or piano stool can be completed on a one day course. Before you come, strip off all the old materials and if there are wobbly joints, fix them before you come to the taster day – it is almost impossible to do so once your wonderful new fabric is in place. It easiest to work with frames made of “proper” wood because mdf or veneered wood can be tricky.

Look at the gallery on our website and our Facebook page to get an idea of work previous students have achieved.

Alongside those coming for a taster session will be those committed to a four day course. We hope this “mix and match” way of running courses gives beginners a chance to see and be inspired by the wide variety of chairs brought along for rejuvenation. We really believe you can learn as much from each other as from the tutors.

The venue at Glencorse Community Centre is near the village of Auchendinny – north-west of Penicuik and 4 miles from the Straiton exit on City of Edinburgh Bypass. It is easily accessible from Edinburgh, the Lothians, Glasgow area and further afield. You can bring a picnic lunch or use the wonderful community cafe. We provide tea, coffee and cake.

This courses costs £75 + plus additional materials used – rarely more than £5, but can sometimes be more.
